Cumberland Gap: Bio

Cumberland Gap

Cumberland Gap began taking shape in 1998 with Greg Silsby ( lead vocals, guitar), Aaron Muskopf (vocals, bass) and Dave Anderson (lead guitar). Kevin Liley (vocals, banjo, mandolin, fiddle) joined the group in 2000 and Cecil Tinnon (mandolin, vocals) soon followed. Multi-instrumentalist Gary Hunt and Dobro player Bob Bridenbach have made guest appearances on both albums and have played live with the band on several occasions.

Since the beginning Cumberland Gap has stayed true to its roots. Their acoustic renditions of classic folk, blues, and bluegrass along with their inspired list of original songs have gained a steadily growing enthusiastic audience. They were named as the best bluegrass band in St. Louis by the Riverfront Times in 2004.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch named Cumberland Gap one of the "17 local bands you ought to know about" and had this to say about their live shows:

"With their three-part harmonies soaring over strong, inspired string work, Cumberland Gap captures the soulful, upbeat side of American folk and bluegrass."

Cumberland Gap was awarded best bluegrass band in St. Louis at the 2006 St. Louis Music Awards capturing both the public and critics picks.

The two CDs by Cumberland Gap are availalbe online at CDBaby.com, in most St. Louis/metro area music stores, and as always you can get them at the shows.
